Chelsea seem to be going from strength to strength since sacking AVB, and the club have since overturned a huge 1st leg deficit against Napoli to knock the Italians and get to the QF. They've only gone and done it again, beating Benfica 1-0 on their own patch, meaning they are now the favourites to enter the semi-finals as Englands sole representatives. Great effort. It's not just the Champions League either. Chelsea have been performing in all competitions. The FA Cup continues under Di Matteo and the club have some excellent wins in the league too, maintain pressure on Tottenham and Arsenal. This past weekend, Chelsea had to deal with serious pressure from a spirited Aston Villa side that equalised from 0-2 down, only for Chelsea to find another gear and win it 4-2. Torres scored too. Football, bloody hell. Chelsea will be confident for this game, thanks to their recent fighting performances. They will also be encourage by the number of goals they are scoring here, at least 2 per game in the Champions League. It's also been 9 games since they lost and only a draw against Tottenham put an end to their 4 game winning streak. On the other hand, Benfica have not done well away from home. Their last 5 away games in Europe have seen them win just once. The last time they travelled, they lost 3-2 in St. Petersburg, and that also highlights the worry this team may well have to score a bunch because they look likely to concede at the Bridge. Benfica really should have scored in the 1st leg, as they have twice as many shots as Chelsea. They will surely go hell for leather here. They have however never beaten English opposition in 5 attempts, and England's teams have never lost a tie after winning the 1st leg away from home. Chelsea have conceded just 1 goal at home in the Champions League, less than anyone else, but have banged in 14. I can't see past a Chelsea win tonight. Chelsea to win looks a good enough bet at 1.81 but I prefer to have a small bet just for interest and so will take the huge odds available on Didier Drogba to open the scoring.
