The 85-70 Tampa Bay Rays have forgot how to lose the last week winning seven in a row yet TB still finds themselves five games out in the division and three games out in the wild-card races. TB must now try to add to the 82-73 Chicago White Sox's woes.

Chicago fell out first place in the American League Central with a 6-4 home loss to the 65-91 Cleveland Indians. The Sox can forget about the WC. The only way Chicago is going to the postseason is to win the Central. Coughing up two leads Wednesday has put the White Sox's fate no longer solely in their hands.

Chicago crushed in three runs during the bottom of the first for their first lead 3-1. Paul Konerko's walk, Alex Rios' sacrifice fly and A.J. Pierzynski's double scored the Sox's first three runs, but Chicago's last run Alexei Ramirez's RBI-double to put them ahead 4-3 was the last time the White Sox drew blood. The next three innings Cleveland wrote out blood in the sand.

The Rays doubled up the 69-87 Boston Red Sox to sweep a two-game series 4-2 later Wednesday. Tampa Bay knocked in three runs during the fifth inning on Carlos Pena's and Ben Francisco's home runs to turn momentum around. The Rays regained their two-run cushion during the bottom of the seventh on Jose Lobaton's double for the final run recorded in Boston.

15-9 James Shields with a 3.65 ERA tries to keep TB streaking Thursday. It'll be hard though for Shields has taken two losses his last two road outings at the 90-65 New York Yankees and 91-64 Texas Rangers letting in five runs during 13.1 innings. NY also beat Shields twice earlier in the year at the Bronx by combing in 10 runs, eight earned, during 11 innings.

One other Shields away loss came on July 26 at the 89-67 Baltimore Orioles bleeding for five runs during six innings. The Rays were rolled at Tropicana Field 7-2 by Chicago who smothered in six runs, five earned, during six innings versus Shields. The Sox are 54-for-238 with 22 RBIs, four apiece Ramirez's and Rios', against Shields.

Chicago comes back to the mound with 11-12 Jake Peavy and a 3.40 ERA trying to continue his pattern of loss/win his last five showings. At U.S. Cellular Field in September Peavy beat the 65-91 Minnesota Twins 6-2 and fell to the 83-72 Detroit Tigers 5-3 by shedding a total of four runs during 11.2 innings. Overall the White Sox are 9-5 at U.S. Cellular when Peavy pitches as Tampa Bay is 9-6 on the road when Shields unloads.

The Rays are 17-for-55 with eight RBIs, three Reid Brignac's, versus Peavy. No way is TB going to win out, right? If Chicago loses Thursday's opener I pronounce Detroit will coast to the Central Crown. The Sox cure their hiccups for a day handing TB a serious blow to their playoff lives.
