• Goals are often scarce in Australian football, the under 2.5 goals market is hugely popular when it comes to A League games however The Mariners are providing us with plenty, 7 of these last 9 games have all gone over 2.5 and they have hit 21 goals in total in this period alone.
• So what is it that makes this side play so well? They certainly were not tipped to do this well at the beginning of the season and they don’t really have any stand out superstars and neither have they splashed the cash about in the transfer market.
• The side is vastly made of youngsters, the defence is experienced but the midfield and attack are extremely young with the majority all in their early 20s.
• You wouldn’t think it to watch them though, they play like a well oiled machine and one that has been operating for a long time, they go forward as a unit and are very strong on the counter attack, its not the kind of side I am used to seeing play in the A League but they bring a breath of fresh air to the proceedings Down Under in my opinion.
• Last time out I was unfortunate to have to miss the game due to some xmas shopping however I did have a sneaky bet from my phone whilst I was out and was happy to see that they had won comfortably.
• At home Central Coast are unbeaten in 7 games and they traditionally play well around Xmas time in front of their own fans.
• They have beaten the -1 Handicap in both of their last 2 home games beating Newcastle Jets 2-0 last time out and before that Melbourne Heart 3-1.
• Their opponents today although bottom of the league have suddenly started to turn things around winning both of their last 2 games and I think that is the reason we are seeing such generous odds of the home win here.
• I wouldn’t read into the wins too much however, one of them was against a very poor Adelaide United who despite winning today have been largely unimpressive since the season began.
• The second win was against champions Brisbane Roar which many saw as a remarkable achievement however the Champions are currently in freefall mode, since their excellent unbeaten record which stretched right back to August 2009, the champions have now gone on to lose 5 games in a row, truly astonishing!
• Before those 2 wins Gold Coast had lost 5 of their last 6 games and that is the reason why even now they sit bottom of the league.
• Away from home they have been poorer even more so, the win in Adelaide was their first in 8 away games.
• On top of all this Gold Coast will be without Star midfielder Paul Beekmans for this game, the Dutchman misses through suspension and also their highest scoring striker Dylan Macallister also looks set to miss to out through injury.
• Goalkeeper Glen Moss has also just been ruled out for 2 months so Gold Coast are set to start this game missing key players from every area of the pitch!
• Central Coast meanwhile have no injury worries to contend with and have a full squad to pick from for this game.
• Goal Coast may be turning things around slowly but I don’t believe they are going to go out and put a stop to the team that are currently the best performers in the league. The -1 handicap is very generously priced here at odds of 2.6 With Paddy Power and that will be my first bet for tomorrow.
