Grega Zemlja still didn’t establish his name at ATP level, but some improvements at faster surfaces are obvious for him. Although it looked like he will make the further breakthrough at ATP rankings last year, he didn’t improve further this year, having quite bad start at hard court tournaments. Except for two times second round matches in Doha and Zagreb and losses to Federer and Youzhny, he didn’t make anything else notable at the beginning of the season. Still, even that is more than what his today’s opponent did. Clay court season wasn’t any satisfying neither, but much better performances came on grass court. He won challenger in Nottingham, winning over Berankis, Sela, Beck and Levine which aren’t that bad names at challenger level. Later on, he won in the first round of Wimbledon beating Joshua Goodall in four sets, but lost in second round to much bigger player, Fernando Verdasco in quite a four sets though match.

Ram Rajeev, on the other side, is more of a challenger player without some impressive result this year. Just like his opponent, he also plays better on faster surfaces, but as said his results aren’t good enough to keep up at the ATP level and in comparison to the previous season results are much worse and it doesn’t look like he will able to get a main draw participation for challenger draws for too long. Start of the season was disappointing for him as he tried to reach main draw of ATP tournaments at many occasions, but failed everywhere except in Miami, where he easily lost to Garcia-Lopez in first round in two sets. His only notable result was a win at Leon challenger at hard courts, but the playing lineup was weak even for challenger level. Clay court season almost didn’t exist for him as he played only two tournaments and quickly switched to grass, but failed to impress. He lost to Duckwort in first round of Nottingham challenger, while he won two clay court players at Wimbledon qualifying round, Salamanca and Maximo Gonzalez, losing to Dustin Brown in last round in four sets.

Zemlja is younger player and a bit more “promising” (although both of them are not promising a lot), he has more consistent results this season and especially much better results on grass in this part of the year.
